South Carolina City Ranks Among The Best Food Cities In The Country
I suppose anyone who loves food might declare themselves a ‘foodie.’ However, the definition of ‘foodie’ refers to ‘anyone who loves to cook and try different foods.’ And, when you visit a new city, it’s helpful to know where the best foods are. Luckily, Far and Wide comes to the rescue. They published their ranking of the ’20 Best Food Cities in the U.S.’ And, it’s no surprise that a popular South Carolina city is among the best food cities in the country.
Charleston landed at number 12 on the Far and Wide ranking. The ranking sandwiched it in between Seattle and Houston. So, we tend to think of places like Charleston being plentiful in Southern favorites like barbecue, But, there’s so much more to explore. Charleston is the first place I ever tried the iconic Shrimp and Grits. And, the famous Low Country dish soon became one of my favorites. It was at a legendary restaurant named Slightly North of Broad.
Obviously, seafood in Charleston wins, always. But, noted foodie, Dr. John L. Stanton of St. John’s University, gives Far and Wide his advice. “When you are in a city you may not be familiar with, don’t look for the restaurant you like. Find out if there is a food that the city is well known for and eat in those restaurants.”
Although, if you’re looking for restaurant recommendations, Peninsula Grill, Church and Union and Burwell’s Stone Fire Grill get my vote. If you visit Burwell’s, try the square deviled egg appetizer. And, the lamb lollipops arrive on a hot stone and wow the whole table. But, if you choose Church and Union, the CU Burger is to die for. And, the jaw dropping floor to ceiling bar impresses.
