Watch: Woman Knocked Unconscious Wins Cheese Rolling Event
This picture makes me smile. Last year at this time we brought you the story of NC State’s Abby Lampe and her win at the annual cheese rolling event in Gloucester, England. Love it when we colonists beat the Brits at their own games. If you need a reminder of what this is all about, it is perhaps one of the craziest and strangest annual events in the world.
Sure, we have the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest each July 4th. However, no bones are broken (or worse) annually at this. The cheese rolling at Gloucester produces carnage on Memorial Day weekend that makes the Indianapolis 500 and Coco-Cola 600 blush. If you’ve never seen it, basically a 7 pound cheese wheel is let loose down a near vertical Coopers Hill near Gloucester. Then hordes of people chase after it.
This year, Canadian Delaney Irving found herself barreling downhill in pursuit of the wheel of cheese when she fell and rolled herself. Miraculously, she won. Only she didn’t realize it until she woke up on the medical tent. WHAT?
Vancouver Island native Irving later told the press, “I remember running, then bumping my head, and then I woke up in the tent. I still don’t really believe it, but it feels great.”
🧀 Canadian 🇨🇦 Delaney Irving won’t remember much of winning the Woman’s race at #cheeserolling.

After being knocked out on her way down, she was unconscious for a period of time but told us it was all worth it.
