Acclaimed Food Network Champion Chef Takes Over North Carolina Restaurant

Heirloom ingredients, preservation, and sustainable meats and seafood lead the way to crafting our menus. We’re a place for each and all. This is the message that greets you from the website of Charlotte’s Haymaker restaurant. This will not change even as one of the Queen City’s most acclaimed fine dining destinations moves into a new phase. A new ownership phase, that is.
Chef William Dissen founded the upscale, farm-to-table restaurant more than five years ago. And now he’s sold it to the Built on Hospitality ownership group fronted by Chef Chris Coleman. This is the ownership group that is also the driving force behind phenomenally successful Charlotte area restaurants: The Goodyear House in NoDa and Olde Town Kitchen & Cocktails in Rock Hill.
And it’s one thing to have the title of “chef.” It’s another when you’ve put your talents on display on The Food Network. Chef Chris Coleman has done that on multiple occasions and dominated with competition wins on shows like “Chopped,” “Beat Bobby Flay,” and “Alex vs America.” Coleman founded his Built on Hospitality group with Sean Potter and AJ Klenk 3 years ago.
Coleman is quoted by WSOC-TV as saying, “We are growing pretty rapidly and have plans to do a few more things over the next couple of years. This is a great jumping-off point for us.”
Haymaker is located in Ascent Uptown. That’s a 33-story, mixed-use development at Third and Poplar streets near Truist Field. The restaurant’s hours of operation are:
Monday–Saturday
5pm–Until-Dinner
Saturday
10:00am-2:00pm-Brunch
Sunday
10:00am-4pm-Brunch
Food & Wine Says This North Carolina City Has The Best Food Trucks
Love Food Trucks? Who doesn’t? It seems like the entire food truck industry has boomed in the last 10-15 years, at least here in North Carolina. And for good reason. Food truck festivals are perfect for when you want to try multiple things- or perhaps your group just can’t agree on the same type of food. That’s why Food & Wine set out to determine the cities with the best food trucks across the country. And since trying food trucks in every city is a bit of a challenge, they decided to ask the people who know best- their readers! Food & Wine readers voted ten cities the “cream of the crop” as part of the publication’s Global Tastemakers awards. And one North Carolina city made the shortlist.
Food trucks are a great way for aspiring chefs and restaurant owners to test the waters without the high overhead of opening a full restaurant. Plus they have the ability to go where the people are ie festivals, concerts, breweries, etc. And then of course there is the novelty and appeal of food trucks for a lot of consumers. I have to admit though, with prices typically comparable to a sit-down restaurant, I’ll take that option most every time. But I’m in the minority I know! So which North Carolina city did Food & Wine readers say has the best food trucks? It’s one of my favorites!
