North Carolina Baseball Team Purchased By New Jersey Businessman
Baseball is one of those games that I think is far better in person than on TV. Further, minor league baseball is the best. The stadiums are more intimate. The players are “hungry” for success and so seemingly every pitch means more. And economically, it’s a much cheaper night of entertainment for the family than major league baseball.
There are several amateur leagues around the country that specialize in giving college players the opportunity to continue to hone their skills. One such league is The Old North State League. And one of its teams, The Sanford Spinners, has just been purchased by a New Jersey businessman. The Spinners are named for a professional minor league team that played in Sanford in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. They joined the Old North State League in 2021 and have reached the playoffs the last two years.
Albert Anderson is a retired police officer and volunteer firefighter from Turnersville, New Jersey recently. He bought the team under the umbrella of his Anderson Sports Group. In his retirement from being a first responder, Anderson has become quite the entrepreneur. The Spinners now join Philly Photo and Philm, a photography, video production, photo booth and drone company, as well as Rival Sports Media, which specialized in live-streaming of various sporting events in his portfolio.
Albert Anderson doesn’t see great changes in store for the team. Rather, his focus is going to be on making the fan experience the best it can be. In particular? Food and beverage options. Anderson told rantnc.com, “My parents owned a luncheonette in South Philadelphia and were involved in the food and beverage side of some casinos in Atlantic City, so that’s something that’s in my background. So I’m hoping we can bring a taste of South Philly and see how that fits with some Carolina food.”
Anderson has all of the off season to plan for the future of his Sandford Spinners. Their season is conducted in June through July. And although the team qualified for the playoffs, their quest for the championship this year came up short.
